Suzuki Music Winnipeg
Suzuki Music Winnipeg is an extra-curricular (non-profit) music program offering Suzuki Method instruction in violin, viola, and cello to children and families living in (or near) Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our mission is to enrich the lives of children and families through the study of music. We seek to nurture children and build community in an atmosphere of mutual commitment and respect.
All of our students (ages 4 and up) attend weekly private lessons and group lessons throughout the school year. Performance opportunities include two large group concerts, solo recitals, and small group performances in the community at venues such as MCO pre-concert performances and KidsFest. Since 1969, our program (formerly called Suzuki Talent Education Institute of Manitoba) has produced thousands of talented musicians, from students at Julliard to those who develop a life-long love of music. Today our program consists of 100 students.
All Suzuki Music Winnipeg teachers have received registered training through the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), and all are Active teacher members of the SAA. Because the Suzuki Method is an internationally recognized method of music instruction, there are many opportunities (nationally and internationally) for students, parents and teachers to further their education by attending workshops and summer institutes.

Suzuki Method: Early Music Education
More than 50 years ago, violinist Shinichi Suzuki recognized a connection between children learning their first language and learning music. He began to apply principles of language acquisition to early music education and called his method the mother-tongue approach. Today, his methodology is taught worldwide and incorporates parental involvement, listening, repetition, loving encouragement, and group learning.
