Suzuki Strings Program
Summary
Students in our Strings Program learn how to play violin, viola or cello guided by Dr. Suzuki's principles: respecting and encouraging every child's ability to succeed, active parental involvement, starting at an early age, learning musical language by listening to recordings daily, mastering skills through repetition, and providing a nurturing musical community.
Lessons and Performances
All students (ages 4 and up) attend weekly private lessons AND weekly group lessons throughout the school year. Performance opportunities include two large group concerts, solo recitals, and small group performances in the community at venues such as MCO pre-concert performances and Kids Fest.
Private lessons provide the student and parent with individual instruction. During a student's first year, the parent learns how to play his/her child's instrument along with the student, in order to become an effective "home teacher" for home practice. Scheduling of private lessons are arranged directly with your SMW private teacher. Contact the Program Coordinator if you are in need of a private teacher.
Group lessons allow children to learn from each other and from other teachers. In the group setting, students learn how to refine skills and listen, watch, and play together. Additional ear-training games are incorporated for the younger groups, and reading non-Suzuki repertoire is incorporated for the older groups.
Group Lesson Schedule
VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO: Thursday evenings (6:00pm onward) at Edmund Partridge Community School (1874 Main Street)
